Frequent flyer weekend link love

Advice of the week:

  • Does Alitalia have one of the best SkyTeam award charts?  Lucky at One Mile at a Time looks into the Alitalia award chart and how you may be able to spend miles more wisely on the SkyTeam alliance by using Alitalia miles and booking award tickets with Alitalia.  He cites an example where a LAX – China first class ticket (on alliance partner China Southern) costs 25,000 miles less by booking it via Alitalia vs. booking it via Delta.  That’s good savings! So…how do you get Alitalia miles?  Easy. Alitalia is both a Starpoints transfer partner and  1:1 AMEX Membership Rewards transfer partner. Nice one!
  • How to use ANA website’s to find Star Alliance award availability:  The Points Guy answers a reader question about the ANA website and how it can be used to get a good picture of Star Alliance partner award availability. You need to sign up for ANA’s frequent flyer program first (this link) and then you have access to this fine search tool. Don’t pay attention to ANA’s award chart, know the award chart for the airline you are redeeming miles from (that’s the one that counts), use this website for a better view of alliance award seats than you can get elsewhere. When you find what you want you can call the airline you are redeeming miles on or try to replicate on their site.  The point is this site is accurate and complete, not something you often find in an airline’s online award booking platform.

Good stuff!
